2007 Main Event

The weather forecast for the Main Event over May Bank holiday wasn’t looking good, with the best weather forecast for friday and saturday. A high qualifying position would be important for the championship, as it didn’t look as if many points would be available from the eliminations that were due on Sunday.
During our second qualifying session, excessive tyre shake at the end of the burnout had turned off the main kill switch off at the back of the car. After being pushed back behind the start line the car still refused to start. After being towed back to the pits it was discovered that the optical eye had again failed in the distributor. This time we believe a power surge from the alternator immediately after the kill switch had shook off caused the damage. Again it was in with Steve Johnsons spare distributor for the next qualifying round. This time the car performed faultlessly, running as predicted and we went into the number one qualifying position. We held on until the final round when Steve Johnson went into the nuber one spot and we were relegated to fourth position. This was a pleasing result, proving the consistancy of the tune up on the car.
Unfortunately this was our last run of the weekend. Sunday and Monday were lost to the rain. This despite the valiant efforts of the track crew to dry the strip.
